Engage not Spam!

Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog! As I’ve learned about e-mail marketing this week in my class, I thought I talk about it here on my blog. So first things first:

  • What is e-mail marketing?

According to the balance small business, email marketing is the use of electronic mail to develop relationships with current or potential customers.

  • Why is it important and what are the benefits of e-mail marketing?

E-mail marketing is especially important because it is an ideal tool for customer relationship management (CRM). Besides being very important, there are a few benefits that come with email marketing, which are:

    • it is extremely cost-effective
    • it is highly targeted
    • you can customise it on a large scale
    • it is completely measurable.
  • How to engage consumers with your email content?

  1. Always remember to get the consent from consumers before sending emails

I cannot stress how important it is to always get consent from your customers because if you don’t, not only you’re going to get into trouble as a brand, but you will also lose your customer very quickly. So please remember, before sliding your content into their e-mail, always have their consent first and as long as they say ‘yes’ I want to.

2. Personalised your e-mail to suit your consumers

This is a very important part because you want to engage your consumers with contents that are personalised for them. This is a good way to maintain your email subscriber count too. Consumers will feel like they are connected with your brand if you personalised your email content to cater to their needs and wants. Not only that, they will also feel like they are connected with the brand on an individual level. For example, customer loyalty as well as generating sales.

3. Optimize to fit mobile and tablet

As the usage growth of mobile and tablet are increasing rapidly, it is crucial to optimise your e-mail to fit mobile and tablet.  By doing so, you are creating a positive user experience for your target market. According to the digital doughnut, 24% of consumers get annoyed when e-mails are not optimising to fit mobile and tablet.

4. Allow them to opt-out (unsubscribed) whenever they want to

According to the Spam Act (2003), it is required by law that you have an ‘Unsubscribed’ link in your e-mail. This is because you want to be polite and remain on good terms with your customers as they are what keeps the business going. By having that ‘Unsubscribed’ link also allows you to track your customers. For instance, if there is an increase in customers unsubscribing to you, you can adjust your e-mail content by personalising it to make it more engaging to your consumers. Therefore, by having the ‘Unsubscribed’ link, it not only allows consumers the freedom to opt-out when they want, it also allows you to track your subscribers.

I understand there are certainly more ways on how to engage your consumers with email marketing. But those are just my top 4 picks on how to capture your customers with your email content.

So, my question to you is:

  • What do you think of email marketing?
  • Is the content of the email you’ve received engaging to you?

Let me know what are your thoughts down in the comment section! Thank you for dropping by, I’ll talk to you guys soon!
